Natural Cleaner only $2.67

An advertising flyer in my Sunday newspaper from a national home improvement chain listed several products that now had "new lower prices". One of them, a so called "natural all-purpose cleaner" from a major chemical manufacturer (think bleach here), was reduced from $2.97 for a 32 oz bottle to $2.67. Obviously that is far less expensive than many other green cleaners including our own Oceanic All Purpose Cleaner and Stain Remover. It begs the question, how can that be? First of all, the home improvement center has to make a profit. The salesperson that reps the line has to get paid. The bottles do not magically appear at each store, so there are freight costs involved. Add to those costs, the bottle, sprayer, label, filling the bottle, corrugated carton, and the pallets the cartons are on. Now the chemical manufacturer must be making a profit. And that's on top of manufacturing costs, procuring the ingredients, incoming freight, advertising budget and general overhead. The bottom line is that this so called "green product" is manufactured for virtually nothing. Quality, environmentally responsible ingredients are not cheap. Synthetic chemicals are. Don't you wonder what's really in this stuff?
